This site is for those who want to know more about Nebraska artist,
Nadine McHenry and her work.
Her subjects range from the human figure to cows to landscapes
and to the totally abstract. "When I paint cows or landscapes, I am very
personally connected because I grew up
in the Sandhills of north central Nebraska."
Her paintings hang in corporate and private collections,
also at the Museum of Nebraska Art in Kearney and at the Center for Great Plains Studies in Lincoln.
Twelve of her paintings are permanently displayed at Madonna
Rehabilitation Hospital. Eight are in the prayer room at First-Plymouth
Church in Lincoln NE. Four are at the University of Nebraska College of
Law.
Two of her paintings were displayed at the Sorbonne in Paris,
France and in Provence at an International Willa Cather seminar in 2007.A
portrait of two professors was commissioned for the New York University law
college in New York City.
She was the recipient of the 2002 Lincoln Mayor's Arts Award for Artistic
Achievement.
Statement by Norman Geske regarding her Nebraska Landscapes
"Nadine
McHenry is an artist whose instinctive command of the medium is at the
service of a vision that makes no distinction between representation
and abstraction. The magical capacity of paint to record things seen as
well as the knowledge and feelings contained therein is in these
paintings demonstrated with complete success. These landscapes are
indeed ours - Nebraska as we know it - but they are at the same time
records of the intangibles of light and space in the interplay of land
and sky, a visceral experience that is intrinsic to the function of
art."
- Norman A. Geske, Director Emeritus, Sheldon Memorial Art Gallery & Sculpture Garden
