Playtime 1999
In June 1999, the University Place Art Center in Lincoln, Nebraska presented 30 of Nadine's paintings from a series called Playtime.
Excerpts from the Artist's Statement:
Even though nearly all the figures in this series were inspired by my own children, my real subject was playing.
I was influenced by the spontaneous paintings of Zen art. In Zen paintings the translation from mind and spirit to paper is immediate and direct. Zen paintings exemplify lively humor, childlike simplicity, rhythmic strength of brushwork, and immediacy of expression. They convey sheer spontaneous enjoyment.
Just as in Zen art, where the viewer has a vital role in completing the work through contemplation and inner awakening, this series on play invites viewers to come into the world of a child - to laugh, feel exhilaration, and experience play.
